Frequently Asked Tech Questions

General:

Where can I get drift parts?

Check out the Parts Resources Page!

Drivetrain:

How much horsepower do I need?

It depends on what you goals are with the car. If you are just starting off, bolt on's are fine. 250-300 HP is really all that is needed to get started. Re-gearing the rear end and weight reduction are additional options for more performance without adding power.

Should I Run an LSD or welded diff?

Many have tried running an LSD, but a nicely welded diff is your best bet for the long run, and will give you the most consistency.

Steering:

What is the easiest way to get more angle?

Once you've removed your rack limiters, and cut your inner tie rods, Jon Duncan's Spindles and Steve Mass's arms make a great combo for crazy angle!

Suspension:

How many LB Coil overs should I run on my drift car?

It depends on if you are running a front sway bar or not, but without a front bar you will want stiffer springs (600lb+) but it also depends on your strut configuration. Stiffer springs require stiffer struts. Most guys seem to run 600-800lb front springs with stiff struts (MM3's) and no front swaybar. Rear, you can run 250-500, with some guys going higher. Buy a bunch of coils and see what you like! It's just money!

Are Racelands worth it?

The answer is no! You get what you pay for! Don't buy cheap junk if you need it to perform.

Do I need to switch to an IRS setup?

Only if you can afford to build a fully built IRS setup. It's going to be expensive, and if you compete in a series that follows the Formula D rules, you can only do so in an New Edge (99-04) platform.
